The Guardian in new trans row after music review attacks singer’s views

The newspaper’s deputy music editor described Roisín Murphy’s new album Hit Parade as ‘compromised’ – but still gave the release five stars

The Guardian is embroiled in another trans row after one of its journalists used a review of Roisín Murphy’s latest album to criticise the Irish singer’s views on puberty blockers.

The newspaper’s deputy music editor expressed unease about Murphy’s Hit Parade, which was released on Friday, in an article headlined: “a masterful album with an ugly stain”.

Despite giving the release five stars, Laura Snapes described the album as “compromised for many fans” by the singer’s recently voiced views that vulnerable children should be protected from “absolutely desolate” puberty blockers.

“I totally disagree with Murphy’s views and understand why for many fans, particularly queer fans, this album is DOA [dead on arrival],” the reviewer wrote.
