Women over 70 ‘have less sex than male counterparts’

Female respondents to survey report regular partners until 50 before steep drop off

Straight women over 70 have less sex than their male counterparts, a new study suggests, with just 21 per cent reporting sexual activity in the last three weeks.

Researchers from the University of East Anglia (UEA), in collaboration with King’s College London and University College London, questioned more than 5,000 people aged 18 and older during the 2022 mpox – previously known as monkeypox – outbreak.

They found that the vast majority of people had either zero or one sexual partner in the preceding three weeks, with the number reporting zero increasing significantly with age.

About 65 per cent of heterosexual women reported having one partner in the last three weeks consistently until they reached 50 years of age, after which there was a steep climb in reporting no partners.
