Sir Alex Ferguson told to ‘get off the fence’ over Glazers and Man Utd takeover

It’s almost a year since the Glazers put Premier League side Manchester United up for sale – but it’s still unclear whether the Americans will actually leave Old Trafford

Richard Keys has urged Sir Alex Ferguson to share his thoughts on the Manchester United takeover saga.

The Glazers put United up for sale last November but are yet to announce a preferred bidder, with rumours suggesting they may decide against selling the club. Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani and INEOS chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe are the two leading candidates.

United fans are desperate for the Glazers to sell up. The Americans are deeply unpopular at Old Trafford, with the team’s most recent Premier League title coming a decade ago. The Red Devils have also won just one Carabao Cup in the last six years.

United have struggled on the pitch since Ferguson’s retirement in 2013, but the Glaswegian rarely shares his opinion of the club. Former Sky Sports presenter Keys, who now works for beIN Sports, believes it’s time for Ferguson to “get off the fence”.
