Sara Sharif cops raid at least 20 homes in Pakistan in search for her family

Pakistani police have began raiding homes in a bid to locate Sara Sharif’s family – the 10-year-old was found dead inside a house in Woking, Surrey, last month

Police have raided at least 20 homes in Pakistan as they hunt for the family of 10-year-old Sara Sharif, it has been reported.

The development comes just one day after Sara Sharif’s father, Urfan Sharif, and stepmother, Beinash Batool, issued a video saying they were willing to cooperate with the police. They are thought to have travelled to Pakistan a day before her body was found inside a house in Woking, Surrey on August 10. A post-mortem revealed she had endured ‘multiple and extensive injuries’ over a ‘sustained and extended’ period of time.

The police raids are said to have taken place in the cities of Mirpur and Jhelum. Mr Sharif and Ms Batool described Sara’s death as an ‘incident’ in a video they published yesterday. It is the first time the pair have spoken publicly following the tragedy. They denied claims the family has “gone into hiding” and rejected suggestions that she fell down the stairs. They added that they will “fight our case in court” if they need to.

Ms Batool said: “Firstly I would like to talk about Sara. Sara’s death was an incident. Our family in Pakistan is severely affected by all that is going on. All the media have been given wrong statements…Imran [one of Mr Sharif’s brothers] did not give a statement that Sara fell down the stairs and broke her neck. This was spread through a Pakistani media outlet.
