A suspected Ukrainian drone was shot down close to one of President Putin’s residences early this morning, according to the Russian defence ministry.
Officials said air defences had brought down three drones heading for Moscow, including one that broke up and crashed to the ground in the village of Zavidovo, where Putin’s “Rus” residence is located. Video published by Mash, a Russian media outlet, showed a blast lighting up the sky near the property.
There is no indication that Putin, who has numerous residencies across Russia, was in Zavidovo, which is about 75 miles north of the capital, at the time. His main residence is the Novo-Ogaryovo estate, about 18 miles west of central Moscow. However, the news will jangle nerves among the country’s elite.
