Lee Westwood breaks silence on Ryder Cup picks after missing out due to LIV Golf exodus

Luke Donald announced his six Ryder Cup captain’s picks on Wednesday, and despite not being involved, European stalwart Lee Westwood shared his thoughts on the team

LIV Golf star Lee Westwood has broken his silence on Luke Donald ‘s six Ryder Cup picks, as the European skipper completed his 12-man team to take on Team USA later this month.

Donald confirmed that the experienced Tommy Fleetwood, Shane Lowry and Justin Rose had been added to the team, whilst also giving debuts to three rookies in Sepp Straka, Nicolai Hojgaard and Ludvig Aberg. His six picks join the already qualified Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Viktor Hovland, Tyrrell Hatton, Robert MacIntyre and Matt Fitzpatrick.

One star who is not in the 12-man setup for the clash in Rome is Westwood, who is missing just his second Ryder Cup in 26 years as a player.

The Englishman gave up the chance to play in the 2023 event earlier this year, after opting to resign his DP World Tour membership on the back of sanctions handed to him following his move to LIV Golf.
