Two thirds of people are not considering installing a heat pump in the next five years, according to a poll of Times readers.
Respondents cited concerns over the cost of installation, the reliability of the systems and the required space.
Patrick Harvie, the Greens minister for zero carbon buildings, introduced the government’s heat in buildings strategy earlier this year which requires any new buildings from 2024 to use a “zero direct emissions heating system”, such as a heat pump, instead of a conventional gas boiler.
