Delta plane underwent huge five-hour cleanup after passenger suffered diarrhea

The Delta Air Lines flight had to turnaround (Image: Getty) A plane flying from Atlanta to Barcelona was forced to turnaround and undergo a massive five-hour cleanup operation after a passenger was hit by a severe bout of diarrhea. The plane’s carpet had to be ripped up and replaced after the incident. And passengers onboard reportedly spoke of staff using vanilla-scented disinfentant to mask the smell on Friday night. After a five-hour delay, passengers posted on social media saying the plane was even cleaner than when they initially boarded the aircraft. Following an 8-hour and 13-minute flight, the plane finally landed in Barcelona at 5:10pm – eight hours behind schedule, reports the Daily Mail . One social media user said her partner was on the plane. They reported seeing poo dribbling down the aisle.  A Delta plane (Image: Getty) The woman, known as Dee W on X, said: “My partner was on that flight! It was pretty bad. It was dribbled down the aisle, smelled horrible. The vanilla scented disinfectant used on it only made it smell like vanilla s***. After the plane landed, it was thoroughly cleaned. They didn’t leave until around 2:30am. “The flight was met by emergency vehicles and EMTs carried the sick passenger off the plane. “My partner said the plane was cleaner when they got back on at 2am than it was the first time they got on. No smell either.” Another passenger added: “Both my wife and I were on the flight. It was a mess. “The pilots made the right decision to turn around. The ground crew ripped out the carpet and put new in. Considering the circumstances, the ground crew did a great job, along the attendants and the pilots.” A Delta Airlines Airbus A350 turned around back to Atlanta Friday night because of diarrhea throughout the airplane from a passenger and it’s a biohazard. They said: “It’s just a biohazard issue, we had a passenger who had diarrhea all the way through the airplane so they want us to come back to Atlanta.” When it returned, the passenger was met by emergency services who took them away for a cleanup. A Delta Air Lines spokesman said: “Our teams worked as quickly and safely as possible to thoroughly clean the airplane and get our customers to their final destination. “We sincerely apologize to our customers for the delay and inconvenience to their travel plans.” It later told the Daily Mail the plane was given a deep clean and remained in operation.
