Right-back was on the brink of a move to the Bundesliga this summer but was swayed to stay at City after having dinner with Pep Guardiola
Kyle Walker has revealed for the first time how close he came to joining Bayern Munich this summer and the new contract extension that has kept him with treble winners Manchester City.
The newly-appointed stand-in club captain has responded to his decision to stay by challenging his team-mates to emulate City’s 2017-18 title-winning side in dominating the Premier League from start to finish, as they seek to become the first team ever to be crowned champions in four consecutive seasons.
The England defender, 33, did not appear likely to still be at the Etihad competing for that unprecedented achievement after Pep Guardiola left him out of the Champions League final line-up in June.
A deal with Bayern was all but agreed until City, lacking cover in the full-back positions, responded by offering him a contract which, although yet to be announced, will keep him with the club until 2026.
