Over the winter, they couldn't make many renovations due to the intense weather but in the spring, the couple began their large-scale project. For water, the couple relied on a well that supplied the necessity to them in the middle of the desert. For energy in their off-grid home, she explained that they built a solar system to generate their own power. "Slow but steady progress out here... Aar has been working on building out our solar system the last couple of days," she said. "Very much enjoying getting to know the land itself, witnessing the blooms, colors, sounds, and creatures all around. What a magical grid point." The best part of their decision to go off-grid, Melissa said, was the incredible views they get to see every day: "And man oh man, the star watching out here is stellar."
