At the weekend former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev said some 280,000 had signed contracts with the defence ministry since the start of this year. But Lt General Viktor Sobolev – now a Communist MP – said that the target was 400,000 – indicating a 120,000 shortfall in Kremlin plans. 'We need 400,000 in total,' he said. 'This is due to what our general staff has planned – the creation of new associations, formations and units. Ukraine has destroyed a Russian landing boat amid intense military action in the Black Sea, it’s been claimed.
Footage reportedly shows a Bayraktar-TB2 kamikaze drone destroying a Russian KS-701 Tuna vessel.
Reports say Russia suffered fatalities and casualties in the strike, and a military helicopter airlifted the wounded away from the boat.
