Keir Starmer begins reshuffle of top team to front Labour’s election campaign

The Labour leader’s pre-election shake-up of the Shadow Cabinet comes as MPs return from the summer recess and just weeks before his major address at party conference

Keir Starmer has begun a major reshuffle of his top team as he picks the faces who will front Labour’s general election campaign.

The Labour leader’s pre-election shake-up comes as Parliament returns from the summer recess and just weeks before his major address at party conference.

Key figures including Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves, Shadow Foreign Secretary David Lammy and Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper are expected to keep their posts. Wes Streeting and Bridget Phillipson will also maintain their health and education briefs.

In the first big move Mr Starmer’s deputy Angela Rayner is promoted to Shadow Levelling Up Secretary – a post held by the senior Labour figure Lisa Nandy. A Labour source told The Mirror: “Keir is delighted that Angela has accepted this important role, in addition she will continue to be the strategic lead on Labour’s new deal for working people.”
