Vet shares important tips to keep your dog hydrated and cool in a heatwave

Brits can enjoy a “last dose of summer” heatwave this week, with spots hitting up to 32C, according to The Met Office. Many have been disappointed by this summer’s weather, involving one of the wettest July months on record and a relatively mild August, so this week of sun will be welcomed by many who feel cheated out of a properly warm summer.

As the UK Health Security Agency has issued a yellow heat alert, it’s important to spare a thought for our pets this week, particularly our beloved dogs who struggle in the heat. We all know it’s important on a hot day to stay in the shade and drink plenty of water, and for dogs it’s no different. But what else can we do to keep our canines cool?

Veterinary expert Dr Scott Miller, working with natural dog food brand Barking Heads, has some top tips to keep dogs protected in the sun.

Dr Miller told the Mirror: “There are plenty of ways you can keep your pet safe from these higher temperatures and to make them feel more comfortable.
