Chelsea have been one of the busiest Premier League teams during this summer’s transfer window, but one of their proposed deadline day deals didn’t end up going through
Ian Maatsen was seen celebrating after opting to stay at Chelsea despite interest from Burnley.
Maatsen, who has been on the Blues’ books since his teens, impressed on loan at Turf Moor last season as Vincent Kompany’s side won promotion back to the Premier League. The Clarets had an offer accepted, with a £31.5m deal in mind, but the Dutchman said no.
Mauricio Pochettino has welcomed Maatsen into the senior side this season, handing the 21-year-old his Premier League debut in the 1-1 draw with Liverpool in August. While Burnley were clearly keen on the Dutch under-21 star, his own preference has been made clear.
In a video shared on social media, Maatsen can be seen confirming his plans. “I’m still here, up the Blues!” he says, after the video begins with Sky Sports News footage.
