The iconic Princess Diana red ball gown – worn to the premiere of Hot Shots back in 1991 – is now going under the hammer in Beverley Hills, where it is expected to fetch more than £400,000 at auction
A red ball gown worn by Princess Diana more than 30 years ago is expected to sell for more than £400,000 at auction.
The Bruce Oldfield-designed dress was worn by Diana to the premiere of comedy film Hot Shots at Leicester Square. It will go under the hammer this month at Julien’s auction house in Beverley Hills – where would-be buyers will have to shell out hundreds of thousands of pounds for a chance to own the historic piece.
The draped red gown features a slender fitting down to the waist, horizontal folds that fan out from the centre seam to the back closure, and also includes a tartan motif. A label that reads ‘Bruce Oldfield, Custom Made, London’ can be found on the inside.
First debuted by Diana for the Odeon film premiere in 1991, it went on display in Ireland earlier this year at an exhibition named ‘Princess Diana â Fashion from the Wardrobe of the People’s Princess’, which was held at Newbridge Silverware’s Museum of Style Icons.
