The tortuous process of delivering two new ferries for the main Arran service, many years late and who knows how many hundreds of millions over budget, prompted a flurry of Scottish government activity this week. But, whether by carelessness or design, hardly anyone noticed. The only publicised development was that Hull 802, still unlaunched on that Ferguson Marine slipway, will one day be named Glen Rosa.
The most significant development came on Monday when Mairi McAllan, the cabinet secretary for transport, net zero and just transition, sent a 12-page response to the latest Holyrood committee inquiry into ferry services.
