Robert Pitt, the Independent News & Media chief executive during the contentious reign of Denis O’Brien’s hatchet man Leslie Buckley at the newspaper group, is doing rather well for himself.
Pitt extricated himself from INM, which was imploding under a governance scandal while chaired by Buckley. He left the media group after helping to expose an illegal 2014 data breach that exposed journalists’ private information, which was subsequently “interrogated” in a covert operation overseen by Buckley.
The company was subsequently bought for a knockdown price by the Belgian group Mediahuis. Pitt headed to central Europe with a €1.5 million payoff.
