I used to put shelving and storage into one category (file under: boring things that don’t involve buying shiny new ones). How wrong I was. As you grow up, you begin to appreciate good storage. Nowadays, it’s often the biggest compliment you can give a house because it refers to its bones: it’s basically like telling someone they have shiny hair, glowing skin or remarkably straight teeth.

However, not all houses come with cloakrooms, fewer come with pantries, or utility rooms that allow for shelves heaving with neat jars, or the simple luxury of a space to store your ironing board.
