Lewis Hamilton has committed his future to Mercedes for another two years Lewis Hamilton’s new contract will see him take home £50million per season after the seven-time world champion committed to a new, two-year extension on his current deal with Mercedes. According to a report from The Telegraph, Hamilton’s new deal will be worth a total of £100m, taking him onto similar terms to that of two-time world champion and fierce rival, Max Verstappen. The Dutchman signed a new bumper contract with Red Bull in the wake of his 2021 title triumph, signing on the dotted line until 2028 and netting him £43.4m per season ($55m). At the time, this made Verstappen the highest-paid driver in F1. Sky Sports F1 pundit and co-commentator Martin Brundle had previously suggested that Hamilton will be asking for a similar figure, explaining: ‘I’m sure he would be asking for that kind of number. He will value himself at the same as Max as a seven-time World Champion. And he knows he’s still got the speed.’ Hamilton’s new contract puts an end to a drawn-out summer transfer saga, with the 38-year-old driver heavily linked with a switch to Mercedes’ fellow title hopefuls, Ferrari, in a sensational late-career switch. The legendary Briton regularly reiterated his commitment to re-signing with Mercedes for 2024 and beyond, but as the negotiations dragged on with no announcement, fans and pundits began to speculate that there could be some friction between the two parties. Ultimately though, Hamilton decided to extend his partnership with Mercedes, which has produced six Drivers’ Championship titles since he made the switch from McLaren over a decade ago.
