Woman who mistook her cancer symptoms for menopause is ‘lucky to be alive’

Amanda Price dismissed being tired and having heavy and irregular bleeding for 10 months as symptoms of “the change” – but when she finally saw a GP they pushed for tests

A care worker mistook her cancer symptoms for menopause and says she’s “lucky to be alive”.

Amanda Price, 58, dismissed her fatigue and irregular heavy bleeding over 10 months as mere signs of “the change” – but when she finally consulted a GP, they insisted on tests which led to the startling diagnosis of an advanced form of uterine cancer.

But the care worker, originally from West Bromwich, West Midlands, credits her survival to a drug developed with the help of Cancer Research UK called Carboplatin.

In December 2018, Amanda had quit her job as a carer and relocated to Fernhill Heath, Worcestershire to take care of her mother, Ross, full time. She described her growing concern about her declining energy levels and a significant increase in bleeding, which she initially attributed to menopause.
