A remote cottage in the Highlands could be the final resting place of a murdered mother and her toddler, police say as they launch a new public appeal to find it.
William MacDowell, 81, killed his lover Renee and their son Andrew MacRae, three, who vanished from their home in Inverness on November 12 1979. MacDowell was convicted in September last year and sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 30 years. He died in February in prison after refusing pleas to reveal the location of their bodies.
Years before his conviction he told a witness that if the cottage was found, it would lead to his downfall, police revealed.
Investigators believe that if they can discover its location, it will hold vital clues
