Flood alerts are in place for Cumbria, Tyne and Wear, and Somerset as Met Office forecasters say further rain is coming across the UK, in a miserable and gloomy August
Three huge flood alerts – each up to 30-miles long – have been issued by Environment Agency as a fresh deluge of downpours is set to batter the UK.
Large parts of the coastline are feared to be particularly vulnerable as rain moves in from the west. Residents in Cumbria, Tyne and Wear, and Somerset have been warned to “start acting on your plan” by authorities.
The latest of the three alerts, issued this morning, concerns part of Somerset. Those living between Gore Point and Hurlstone Point including Porlock Weir should be wary, Environment Agency says.
The Tyne and Wear coastline, approximately a 30-mile stretch, is subject to a flood alert, again issued today. It is feared it is vulnerable to overflowing levels of the North Sea with more rain predicted in the Northeast of England.
