Chicago TV news crew reporting on armed robberies held up at gunpoint

Television journalists filming a news report on armed robberies in Chicago were themselves robbed at gunpoint.

A reporter and photographer from Univision Chicago, a Spanish-language network, were filming in West Town shortly before 5am on Monday when three men wearing ski-masks and wielding firearms emerged from a grey saloon car and a black SUV.

The trio demanded money before stealing a camera, equipment and personal items and fleeing the scene, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. The crew members were not injured.

The journalists had been preparing for a series of live shots about a recent spate of robberies after the armed carjacking of a woman on the same block the night before. The footage, which was supposed to air on the morning news, was lost.
