Structures up to three-storeys high are being mooted under government’s new parking guidelines
Three-storey “car barns” could be built on residential streets instead of driveways under new government parking guidelines, it has emerged.
Design codes drawn up by the Levelling-Up Department suggest that the “decked parking structures” could be built in new developments rather than spaces in front of people’s homes.
The guidance states that these so-called barns could be “multi-level parking structures”, or alternatively, buildings with parking on the ground floor with a facility such as a community centre above.
Town halls will be told to consult these codes when they draw up plans for their areas after the Levelling-Up Bill, which is currently going through Parliament, is passed.
