American federal prosecutors are reported to be investigating Tesla’s use of company funds on a secret project described internally as a house for Elon Musk, the company’s chief executive.
The US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York has asked for information about personal benefits paid to Musk, how much Tesla spent on the project – which called for a spacious glass structure to be built in the Austin, Texas, area – and what it was for, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Tesla moved its headquarters from California to Austin in December 2021.
The Securities and Exchange Commission has also opened a civil investigation, the report said. The agency said it does not comment on the existence or non-existence of a possible
