Mauricio Pochettino gives amusing reason for early Chelsea exit after poor first half

Mauricio Pochettino saw his Chelsea side come from behind to avoid a shock Carabao Cup defeat to Wimbledon and gave an entertaining reason for his early first-half exit

Mauricio Pochettino admits he didn’t walk down the tunnel early during Chelsea’s win on Thursday night out of frustration – instead he simply couldn’t wait for the toilet any longer.

The Chelsea boss exited the dugout shortly before the half-time whistle during his side’s Carabao Cup win over Wimbledon. The Blues had fallen behind early on to a James Tilley penalty, igniting thoughts of a major upset in the second round of the competition, before Noni Madueke levelled things up.

Pochettino’s premature decision to head down the tunnel was seen as a sign of anger following a below par first-half, but the Argentine simply needed a toilet break as he prepared to make changes that would eventually lead to the win.

The Chelsea boss said: “Needed the toilet. Not disappointed. It’s true I needed the toilet and then to see a report of the half and to make some chances like Nico (Jackson). Not because I was disappointed.”
