An ill wind is blowing for Orsted

The world’s largest offshore wind farm developer has warned that supply chain problems, rising interest rates and a lack of new tax credits could force it into a £1.8 billion writedown.

Orsted, of Denmark, which operates the Hornsea 1 and 2 wind farms off the coast of Yorkshire, said that its Ocean Wind 1, Sunrise Wind and Revolution Wind projects off the Atlantic coast of the United States had been affected by supplier delays, which in turn could trigger impairments of up to DKr5 billion (£580 million).

Mads Nipper, 57, chief executive of the Copenhagen-listed company, said: “The situation in US offshore wind is severe.” Orsted’s shares fell by 24.8 per cent to DKr420.90, their lowest level in more than four years.
