Removing stains from bedding can be a real nightmare, but according to fans of cleaning guru Mrs Hinch, you can clean up blood stains using just one free ingredient
Waking up to find blood on your bedsheets isn’t entirely uncommon, whether it’s caused by a period or by accidentally scratching yourself during your sleep. Whatever the reason for the bleeding might be, it’s always an absolute pain to strip your bed and spend the next several hours trying to clean the stains.
But according to fans of cleaning guru Mrs Hinch, you actually don’t need to splash out on expensive stain removers or spend your entire day scrubbing at the stains, as there’s an easy way to get your bedsheets looking good as new again. What’s more, the hack only requires one ingredient – and it’s almost completely free.
In a post on the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips page on Facebook, one woman asked for advice after her partner managed to bleed “all over [her] brand new duvet and headboard” after going to bed with a cut on his finger. And among the commenters, most people suggested she use a product all of us have access to – cold water.
Cold water is known for working wonders on blood stains as well as those caused by food and drink such as chocolate, wine, and coffee, while you should use hot water for stains caused by sweat, foundation, and oil. Some commenters suggested adding salt to the cold water mixture and soaking the bedding, while others simply said cold water on its own – and even ice cubes – is enough to lift the stain.
