The FedEx Cup playoffs boasts the biggest prize pot on the PGA Tour with $75 million (£60m) divided between those who take part – and Viktor Hovland emerged victorious
Viktor Hovland claimed the biggest prize winnings of the PGA Tour season when he won the FedEx Cup – with the top eight players each receiving over a million dollars.
Hovland held his nerve to finish 27 under in the Tour Championship, edging out American duo Xander Schauffele and Wyndham Clark. The Nowegian took home $18 million (£14.3m) for his troubles, ensuring he ends the 2023 year on a high and continues his scintillating form ahead of the Ryder Cup.
The total FedEx Cup prize money for the 2023 PGA Tour season was an eye-watering $75 million (£60m). The structure was the same as the 2022 season, which saw Rory McIlroy – who came fourth in 2023 – take home the blockbuster winners cheque following an epic victory at East Lake.
This year’s FedEx Cup Playoffs worked slightly differently. Only 70 players reached the PGA Tour post-season instead of the usual 125, with three events contested to determine the 2023 champion, with Hovland emerging victorious.
