Lottery winner family sued for half their jackpot by man in prison they’ve never met

The payouts awarded by Powerball and other types of lotteries can be eye watering but that comes with its own risks. Families revelling in their newfoudn wealth have been known to be hit with lawsuits and even have to hire security

Winning big on the lottery is undoubtedly life changing but sometimes those changes aren’t always for the best. Some winners have had to hire private security to protect their newfound fortunes as people come out of the woodwork looking for a piece of the money.

Lawsuits are often launched for people wanting a cut of the payout. One ‘lucky’ family won $1.6 billion only to be hit with a bizarre lawsuit from a man in jail they had never met.

The 2016 lawsuit was brought via a handwritten note, riddled with spelling mistakes, from a federal prisoner who once sued actress Anne Hathaway for not visiting him in prison.

The Robinson family, from Munford, Tennessee, won big on the Powerball, netting $1.6 billion, before taxes. But as they revealed Jonathan Lee Riches, also known as Jihadi Schitz, launched a lawsuit against the Multistate Lottery Commission, Powerball and the Robinson family.
