Peter Andre has admitted he hasn’t had a birthday party since his 40th after falling into a ‘very, very dark place’ over the death of his beloved older brother Andrew in 2012
Peter Andre has revealed he hasn’t had a birthday party since his 40th, which took place shortly after the devastating death of a close family member.
The British-Australian musician, now 50, lost his older brother Andrew to kidney cancer in December 2012. It’s understood that Peter had always been very close to the 56-year-old, who died surrounded by his loved ones in London after undergoing 10 months of chemotherapy. The Mysterious Girl singer turned 40 a couple of months later, which only added to his despair.
“When I lost my brother, I was in a very, very dark place,” Peter recalls in a new interview. “Therapists said, ‘You’re going through grief. It’s not the same as anxiety and depression, though you might be feeling the same symptoms.'”
He went on to recall how he was unable to enjoy his surprise 40th birthday party the following February, because he “kept disappearing and breaking down” from the pain of losing his brother. The swanky event, which was organized by his now wife Emily MacDonagh, took place at the Browns Bar & Brasserie in Covent Garden and was reportedly attended by Peter’s two older children, Princess and Junior, from his marriage to ex Katie Price. “I don’t think I’ve had a birthday party since,” he admitted.
