Japanese centenarian is world’s oldest beauty adviser

After six decades selling make-up and moisturiser to customers in Fukushima, a 100-year-old Japanese woman has become the world’s oldest beauty consultant.

Tomoko Horino, who has been listed by Guinness World Records, first became a salesperson for Pola, a Japanese cosmetics firm, in 1960. Today she still sells to eight customers and earns 100,000 yen (£540) a month.

“I just enjoy seeing customers become beautiful and happy, and that has kept me going this far,” she told the Kyodo news agency. “I want to continue working as long as I can.”

Once a week she commutes by bus from her home to the Pola offices in the city of Fukushima, and visits her clients on foot or by public transport. Horino began working for the
