Romelu Lukaku may have ideal Premier League move after new low at Chelsea

Romelu Lukaku is still waiting to finalise a move away from Chelsea this summer as the options for a permanent transfer narrow down. The towering Belgian has been deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge, just two years after he returned to the Blues in a big-money move from Inter Milan. Lukaku spent the entirety of last season on loan at Inter but will not be returning to the San Siro after a deal fell through earlier this summer. He was also targeted by Al-Hilal back in June but reportedly turned down the opportunity to earn a killing in Saudi Arabia. Time is quickly running out for Lukaku to move elsewhere, with just over a week until the transfer window closes next Friday. It seems clear that he will play no part for Chelsea this season after being forced to train with the under-21s, according to The Telegraph , while it is also said that he has not even spoken to Mauricio Pochettino yet. Another loan move could emerge as the most likely scenario for Lukaku, with one of his former clubs potentially able to offer him the perfect solution to his Chelsea woes. A return to Everton on a temporary basis would suit him down to the ground by giving him the chance to rediscover his form in an environment he has been successful in before. He scored 87 goals from 166 appearances in all competitions before he was eventually sold to Manchester United three years later. It could be the perfect time for Lukaku to return to his old stomping ground, where the pressure to perform would not be quite so intense as it is at Chelsea. Such a move may also prove beneficial for Everton, who could do with signing another striker following Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s injury over the weekend. If they manage to sign Lukaku and get him firing on all cylinders once again, it could be the difference between another relegation dogfight and a comfortable mid-table finish. The Merseyside outfit were recently urged to explore the idea of bringing Lukaku back by former England striker Chris Sutton, who told the BBC : “With Calvert-Lewin, it’s so frustrating. We saw when he had a run towards the end of the season, the impact he can have, but Dyche can’t trust him. “You have mentioned [Neal] Maupay and it hasn’t happened for him, it doesn’t look like it will happen for him. Lukaku, go and get Lukaku. I have said Lukaku and I’ll say it again.” Want the latest Premier League news as we publish it on Express Sport ? Join our Facebook group by clicking here .
