Thompson's attorney's later disclosed that the man was allegedly eaten alive by insects. The autopsy report said that Thompson had endured "severe neglect" inside the prison citing that he was dehydrated, malnourished and had an insect infestation within his body; his schizophrenia had also been left untreated. Attorney Ben Crump, who represents the Thompson family, said the morbid details of the man's death were "truly one of the most horrific cases" he had ever seen. Micheal Harper of Harper Law Firm, which also represents the Thompson family, said that public records show Thompson being placed in the psychiatric ward but nothing further to help his deteriorating condition. Harper also said that when Thompson's body was found, a detention officer refused to administer CPR because, in her words, she was "freaked out."
