The Dutch Grand Prix returns this weekend for the third consecutive year after it was revived for the first time since 1985, but its current contract expires after the 2024 season
The long-term future of the Dutch Grand Prix is uncertain, the event’s sporting director has admitted.
The Zandvoort race was revived in 2021 after an absence from the Formula 1 calendar of more than three decades. It will be held for the third straight year this weekend and is also guaranteed a place on the 2024 schedule.
But its future beyond that is not secure. The Dutch GP has one of the shortest contracts of all current venues, at a time when F1 is looking beyond Europe for new opportunities. And Jan Lammers, a former F1 driver and the sporting director of the Netherlands race, admits there is no guarantee that an extension will come.
The reasons behind that appear to be financial. Lammers admitted as much as he suggested the budget is not there for the Dutch GP to be able to compete with the hosting fees that some newer venues are willing to pay.
