It was laying on the back of a chair," Ted said, absolutely gobsmacked at the price. The blanket was a Navajo Ute blanket that dated back to around the 1850s. Ted believed that the blanket was given to his grandmother's foster father by Kit Carson, a US frontiersman. When Donald heard that, he changed his estimation. "The value of this that I'm giving is not using the Kit Carson provenance. Provenance is difficult to ascertain. If we could do research on this and we could prove without a reasonable doubt that Kit Carson did actually own this, the value would increase again," he said. Kit Carson was a famous frontiersman and was a symbol of American frontiersmen in the late nineteenth century. However, in modern times, his name has a more infamous connotation.
