Erik ten Hag has been told to remove Bruno Fernandes as the Manchester United captain following the midfielder’s actions in their 2-0 loss at Tottenham on Saturday
Bruno Fernandes should not be the captain of Manchester United, according to ex-Premier League star Chris Sutton.
The 28-year-old has been criticised following the Red Devils’ 2-0 defeat against Tottenham after Fernandes publicly asked for an apology from the officials. The Portugal international was unhappy when United was not awarded a penalty after Alejandro Garnacho’s effort struck the arm of Cristian Romero.
The incident was reviewed by VAR but no action was taken as Michael Oliver waved play to continue. But, after the match, Fernandes was incensed United should have been given a penalty. He admitted: “I want to see if Jon Moss also comes to apologise to our dressing room like they said he did to the manager of Wolves.”
Fernandes has been slammed by some for his comments, with former Blackburn and Chelsea striker Sutton weighing in on the debate. He’s claimed Fernandes shouldn’t be United’s skipper – just a month after he replaced Harry Maguire as the club’s new captain.
