Dad praised for refusing to attend wedding after one of his kids was not invited

The dad’s decision to decline an invite from his wife’s sister – after she refused to include his child from a previous relationship – has been praised by fellow parents

Parents have praised a dad who refused to attend a wedding after his in-laws refused to invite one of his children. The married dad has two kids: a child of secondary-school age, from a previous relationship, and a younger child, who is soon to start school, with his wife of eight years.

Throughout his new relationship, the dad has enjoyed an ‘excellent’ co-parenting relationship with his ex, according to his current partner. As she explained in a post to Mumsnet, the pair don’t split childcare ’50/50′, as the dad sometimes works away. But his firstborn visits ‘regularly’, albeit ‘not as often as they did say pre-Covid’, as the stepchild ‘has a life with shows and dance classes’.

During their eight years of marriage, the youngster has not spent much time with her step-mum’s family, however. According to the woman: “My parents were always pleasant but rarely saw them to form a relationship. Husband asked if stepchild could be included in holiday and offered to pay, my parents insisted on paying and had a reasonable time.”

Meanwhile, her parents have previously been left off the invite list for a joint meal for the children, who celebrate their birthdays a few weeks apart, as they don’t buy a present for the stepchild.
