After spending more than a decade on death row, US serial killer Aileen Wuornos vowed to return seconds before she was given a lethal injection in 2002
American serial killer Aileen Wuornos uttered her unsettling final message moments before she was executed by lethal injection in Florida in 2002 – vowing to return.
When asked whether she’d like to give a final statement, Wournos, who was said to be smiling at witnesses from the execution room, said: “Yes, I would just like to say I’m sailing with the rock, and I’ll be back, like Independence Day, with Jesus. June 6, like the movie. Big mother ship and all, I’ll be back, I’ll be back.”
Wournos, who was given a total of six death sentences for shooting seven men to death between 1989 and 1990, was taken into custody in January 1991. A sex worker at the time, Wournos claimed she killed the men out of self-defense saying they all either raped her or attempted to do so.
