TOTTENHAM 2-0 MAN UNITED: A strike from Pape Matar Sarr and own goal from Lisandro Martinez condemned the Red Devils to a comprehensive defeat by a vibrant Spurs
Pape Matar Sarr scored his first ever Tottenham goal while Lisandro Martinez put into his own net as a below-par Manchester United crashed to a deserved two-goal defeat in north London.
The first half was entertaining but goalless. United had a strong penalty appeal turned down despite the ball hitting the outstretched arm of Cristian Romero in the area, before Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes both spurned glorious opportunities from central heading positions.
Spurs were on the backfoot but did create chances in an entertaining game and hit the woodwork twice in quick succession. First Pedro Porro smacked a fine effort against the bar before Pape Matar Sarr’s cross from the right deflected off Luke Shaw and onto the post.
Sarr broke the deadlock early in the second half with a composed close-range finish to culminate a period of Spurs press. Antony subsequently hit the post for the visitors before Casemiro forced a fine save from Guglielmo Vicario, but it was the home side who were on top in the second period.
