The Czech company behind Tynagh power station near Loughrea in Co Galway has decided to pull the plug on a new €110 million gas plant due to the rising cost of construction.
EP Energy Developments (EPED) told The Sunday Times project costs have soared by over 40 per cent and the board has decided the project is “no longer economically viable”. The plant will now cost over €155 million to build.
A subsidiary of EP UK Investments, which bought Tynagh Energy power station in 2019, EPED won a government contract in 2021 to supply additional energy to the electricity grid by October 2024.
