Graham Linehan, the creator of Father Ted, has said he and Enoch Burke, the sacked schoolteacher, are unlikely “bedfellows” in their stance towards the trans community.
The Dublin-born, London-based gender-critical comic said he rarely visited Ireland now and feels abandoned by all but a few comedians back home.
“Apart from my mum there’s not much reason for me to go back. Again just the complete lack of interest and fellowship and I’m disgusted with everyone I used to know,” he told The Sunday Times.
Linehan, an atheist, said that while he was unsure of the rights and wrongs of Burke’s tactics, he is supportive of the strident Christian’s initial refusal to refer to a transitioning pupil by a new name and pronouns.
