Down in the air-conditioned corridors of the Karaiskakis Stadium, Cole Palmer was heading to his umpteenth interview of the night when a reporter stopped him in his tracks and showed him a screenshot of Riyad Mahrez’s latest social media posts.
From his living room in his new home in Jeddah, Mahrez had been watching his old club Manchester City defeat Sevilla on penalties to win the European Super Cup in Athens.
“Another one,” Mahrez posted on X (formerly Twitter), alongside an emoji of a trophy. “Congrats guys on making even more history,” read one more post.
It was another of Mahrez’s posts that made Palmer’s face light up, though. It simply said “Cole” followed by two clapping emojis. Palmer smiled as he looked at the
