Mamma Mia and Wicked star Chris Peluso dies aged 38 after battling schizoaffective disorder

Broadway actor Chris Peluso who starred in Mamma Mia! and Wicked has sadly died aged just 38 after battling with a schizoaffective disorder that reportedly forced him off the stage

Broadway star Chris Peluso has sadly died aged 38 after battling with a schizoaffective disorder that had reportedly forced him off the stage. He had starred in Mamma Mia!, Wicked and The Woman In White before undergoing treatment in 2022 to deal with his ‘debilitating paranoia’ which prevented him from working.

The young actor died earlier this week and the news was confirmed by the University of Michigan’s musical theatre department’s interim chair Linda Goodrich. She posted a tribute on the theatre’s official Instagram page but did not reveal a cause of death.

Instead, she wrote: “The Michigan Musical Theatre family is heartbroken as we announce the passing of our dear family member/alum, the loving, charismatic, and divinely gifted Chris Peluso. Chris appeared on Broadway in Mamma Mia!, Assasins, Lestat, The Glorious Ones and Beautiful, played Fiyero on tour in Wicked and starred in London in Miss Saigon and Showboat. Our hearts go out to his family.”
