Manchester United have issued a fresh statement in response to concerned fans bombarding the club’s email over Mason Greenwood’s potential return. Many supporters against the 21-year-old’s potential reintegration made their voices heard on Thursday. On Wednesday, United announced they were in the closing stages of their “thorough” six-month investigation into Greenwood’s Old Trafford future. Greenwood hasn’t played or trained since his arrest in January 2022, before he was later charged with attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour. The No 11 denied the allegations he faced, and the Crown Prosecution Service dropped all charges against him in February of this year, sparking United’s probe. Simultaneous to United’s update, The Athletic reported that chief executive Richard Arnold had already told club figures of Greenwood’s impending return. Arnold allegedly had plans in place to announce the decision at the start of August but delayed going public. In response to Wednesday’s news, #GreenwoodOut was trending on Twitter, and many fans shared the club and Arnold’s emails to protest against Greenwood’s return. United have since responded.
