Last week, searing heat across the Iberian peninsula broke all-time temperature records at a number of locations around Spain.
One of the more interesting records to fall was at the airport in Valencia, where until last week the hottest day ever recorded was 43.4C, back on July 6, 1986.
Valencia sits along the eastern coast of Spain and on a normal summer’s day, a gentle sea breeze can be relied upon to temper the heat. Last Thursday, with temperatures in the high twenties the night before, another hot day beckoned. But even at midday, despite being hot it did not look like a record-breaking day was about to unfold.
