Coronation Street star Cait Fitton has had her fair share of gripping storylines since making her debut as Lauren Bolton on the ITV soap last year.
The troubled teenager was groomed by her father Reece, who convinced her to join a far-right extremist group, and then found herself alone after her dad was sentenced to 18 months in prison. After Roy Cropper discovered she was sleeping rough, he offered her a room to sleep in and a cooked meal, but Lauren, who was embarrassed after ex-boyfriend Max rejected her advances, made kind-hearted Roy a sexual offer in return.
Her decision caused fury among viewers, who called Corrie writers “disgraceful” for “scraping the bottom of the barrel”, but others welcomed the dark plotline, and said it highlighted the mental wellbeing of grooming victims.
“I completely understand the situation with Lauren and I hate that she has grown up believing that any man who does something nice for her wants something in return,” one tweeted.
