 British tennis legend Andy Murray has suffered an injury blow with the US Open in New York getting underway in less than two weeks. The final major tournament of 2023 gets underway on August 28 as Murray looks to improve on his run to the third round at Flushing Meadows last year. Murray, 36, won the US Open 11 years ago and has made three quarter-final appearances since then. The three-time Grand Slam champion, who plays with a metal hip after career-saving surgery, has been on a resurgence in 2023. Murray has won three titles this year – one on clay and two on grass – and the former world No.1 has climbed back up the rankings his current position of No.36. But he has been hit by an injury problem and was forced to pull out of the Cincinnati Open on Tuesday as he attempts to manage an abdominal strain. Murray picked up the issue at last week's Canadian Open and withdrew from the event prior to his last-16 clash against eventual champion Jannik Sinner. He spent nearly five hours on the court in wins over Lorenzo Sonego and Max Purcell, which took a toll on his body, and he will now focus on getting fit and ready for the US Open. 'I had a very similar issue last year in the tournament in Stuttgart before Wimbledon which forced me to miss the Queen's Club tournament and I was able to play Wimbledon,' Murray said. 'It took me about 10 to 12 days before I was feeling good again. This is not as bad as that, but obviously the danger if you compete and play on it is you make it worse.
