The former president would have to serve any prison sentence before being eligible under state laws, legal experts believe
Donald Trump could not be pardoned in Georgia until he has served any prison sentence he is handed over election interference if convicted, experts believe.
The former president could be imprisoned for up to 20 years over accusations he operated a racketeering “criminal enterprise” in the aftermath of the 2020 election.
In other federal criminal cases he faces in Washington DC and Florida, Trump would have the power to pardon himself if he is elected to the White House again in next year’s election.
Other Republican candidates, including Ron DeSantis and Vivek Ramaswamy, have suggested they would also pardon Trump if they were elected.
