Major warning over new parking app scam which could lose you hundreds of pounds

The consumer champion Which? launched an investigation after a member of the public flagged that they had been a victim of the parking app scam

Drivers have been warned of fake parking app promotions which are using QR codes to trick victims into setting up recurring payments.

The consumer champion Which? launched an investigation after a member of the public flagged that they had been a victim. The driver told Which? that they had tried to sign up for a parking app but was instead directed to a website hosted by a company called “Alltainment”.

Mistakenly the driver entered their bank details as they believed the website was part of the parking app. However, they then found themselves signed up for an entertainment package from Alltainment costing £39.99 a month.

Which? found that the scam began when drivers would search for a relevant parking app such as JustPark, Parkonomy, PayByPhone or Ringgo on their phone. If they did this through their search engine, rather than on the app store, then the top result was often a fraudulent website.
